As you will see below, the final stages of the wood veneer fabric, my
wood sari, have been completed. The day before Christmas. The last
flitches were cut and glued; the colored line was completed to the bottom
of the aircraft ply underlayment; more flowers were painted; and,
most importantly for me; the bottom area and the pallu were completed.
The first image below shows the bottoms of both the sari and the pallu
(with it's pattern repeated from the main body of the sari...)
| Bottom of the sari with pattern defined by gesso and infilled with colour |
derived from two sources. The first is the technique. I wanted to imitate
the technique that Mehndi artists such as Iti Chandra Kalsi use, by
extruding a continuous piping out of a plastic bag through a nozzle.
That's the case here, where the orange forms are outlined by orange
colored piping. The forms themselves represent flames and were
were inspired by a pattern on a sari I saw by Mita Naidu and Lotus
Eye.
